Imposante Pieta en bois dans un retable – circa 1890

Piéta exceptionnelle sculptée en bois dans un sanctuaire néo-gothique, vers 1880-1900. Sculpté et patiné polychrome, l'ensemble est présenté dans un encadrement architecturé néogothique à pinacles et arcatures ajourées, formant un véritable retable. Le traitement des drapés aux plis cassés, l’expression intériorisée des visages et la finesse des détails témoignent d’un travail de grande qualité. La polychromie originale est bien conservée, avec des rehauts dorés et un encadrement d’inspiration gothique, véritable écrin, qui valorise la sculpture. Provenance : Atelier Bressers-Blanchaert, à Gand en Belgique. Monté sur un socle en bois postérieur. An exceptional carved wooden Pietà in a neo-Gothic sanctuary, circa 1880-1900. Sculpted and polychrome patinated, the piece is presented within a neo-Gothic architectural frame with pinnacles and openwork arcades, forming a true altarpiece. The treatment of the drapery with its broken folds, the introspective expression of the faces, and the fineness of the details testify to a high-quality craftsmanship. The original polychromy is well preserved, with gilt highlights and a Gothic-inspired frame, a veritable jewel box, which enhances the sculpture.
Provenance: Bressers-Blanchaert workshop, Ghent, Belgium.
Mounted on a later wooden base.
