Relique de Saint Théodore Martyr – fin XVIIIe – Vendue

Un phylactère sur lequel est noté Sancti Theodori M, nous offre  à la dévotion une grande relique ex-ossibus ensachée et présentée dans une rare fiole en verre de forme ampoule.
Le flacon est soigneusement garni de tissus, fils dorés, perles et un cabochon vert serti, probablement verre taillé ainsi que d’un sceau épiscopal en cire.
Le bouchon est recouvert d’un voile textile ancien noué et est accompagné d’un second sceau de cire rouge.
L’ampoule est fixée sur une coupelle en cuivre.
Une production d’Italie du nord ou d’Allemagne du sud en bel état.

A phylactery on which is noted Sancti Theodori M, offers us for devotion a large ex-ossibus relic bagged and presented in a rare glass vial in the shape of an ampulla. The vial is carefully decorated with fabrics, gold threads, pearls and a green cabochon set, probably cut glass as well as a wax episcopal seal.
The stopper is covered with an old knotted textile veil and is accompanied by a second red wax seal. The ampulla is fixed on a copper cup. A production of northern Italy or southern Germany in good condition.

In silver-plated bronze, our antique monstrance rests on a circular base with engraved decoration of the Holy Shroud and the instruments of the Passion. The ovoid knot is decorated with plants. The cup is surmounted by a canopy with fluted columns supported by angels and above which are holy figures.
The dome of the canopy is topped with an ethereal representation of Christ. A fine work, probably German from the end of the 17th or the very beginning of the 18th century.
Dimensions of 37 cm by 12 cm in diameter, an interesting hidden symbolism because the 37 in gematria is the number of Wisdom and the 12 refers us to the Old Testament as well as the New.
