Madone à l’Enfant en albâtre – XVIIe

Un drapé d'une grande finesse pour cette Vierge portant l'Enfant. Sculpture en albâtre dont le dos est ébauché. Un travail d'Italie du sud, du XVIIe, très précis dans sa réalisation. Il s'inspire du modèle de la madone de Trapani sculptée par Nino Pisano au XVe siècle, alors très recherché à cette époque.

A l'image des réformistes qui, durant les guerres de religion, décapitaient méthodiquement les statues de nos Eglises, cette Vierge et l'Enfant, ont subi pareils outrages. Le chef de la Vierge a pu être recollé, mais celui de l'Enfant est resté introuvable. Cette statue doit nous rappeler les forces de l'obscurantisme qui de tout temps, ont cherché à empêcher le libre exercice de la Foi. Mais ces douloureux épisodes font aussi pleinement partie de notre Histoire, cette pièce nous le rappelle.

Dimensions, hors socle rapporté, de 30 cm de hauteur sur 12 de large et 7 de profondeur

Manque la tête de l'Enfant, et éclats au niveau du cou de la Vierge.

A work from southern Italy, from the 17th century, very precise in its realization. It is inspired by the model of the Madonna of Trapani sculpted by Nino Pisano in the 15th century, then much sought after at that time.

he head of the Virgin could be reattached, but that of the Child remained untraceable.
This statue should remind us of the forces of obscurantism which have always sought to prevent the exercise of the Faith. But these episodes are also fully part of our history, this play reminds us of that.
